Shadows on the Sand by Gayle Roper

My thoughts...

This is the first book by Gayle Roper I've read and I loved it! I read it in one day, it was that good. Roper is an excellent writer, she weaves her powerful characters into the storyline with ease and mystery.

This book has the right amount of romance and mystery, including a bit of tragedy. There is forgiveness and trust mixed in as well. Just a perfectly wonderful story.

The story of a girl who has been abused and neglected and finally gains the strength and courage to escape from that world. With her is her little sister. Their story will hold your interest.

I certainly hope there is a sequel in the works! I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

My thoughts...

Beth Wiseman's Land of Canaan series is a touching portrayal of Amish life. The characters she has created are interesting and enjoyable, people you would like to meet. I enjoy a book with great characters that come alive and make you feel as though you are right there with them.

The shame and pain Katie is feeling after discovering her deceased husband had been having an affair is described so well you feel it with her. God's love is the theme of the book, His love is amazing and the characters experience it over and over and want others to know Him and His love.

Overall a wonderful book. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Living Beyond Your Feelings by Joyce Meyer

The average person has 70,000 thoughts every day, and many of those thoughts trigger a corresponding emotion. No wonder so many of us often feel like we're controlled by our emotions. Our lives would be much improved is we controlled them.

In LIVING BEYOND YOUR FEELINGS, Joyce Meyer examines the gamut of feelings that human beings experience. She discusses the way that the brain processes and stores memories and thoughts, and then - emotion by emotion - she explains how we can manage our reactions to those emotions. By doing that, she gives the reader a toolbox for managing the way we react to the onslaught of feelings that can wreak havoc on our lives.

In this book, Meyer blends the wisdom of the Bible with the latest psychological research and discusses: the 4 personality types and their influence on one's outlook, the impact of stress on physical and emotional health, the power of memories, the influence of words on emotions, anger & resentment, sadness, loss & grief, fear, guilt & regret, the power of replacing reactions with pro-actions, and the benefits of happiness.

My thoughts...

Meyer encourages people to not let your feelings determine how your day goes or how you make decisions, etc. Too many of us are living according to our feelings and as Christians we can't do that and live peacefully. Meyer says we must be careful what we say as our words effect us greatly. Our words impact our lives so speak positively and stop complaining and all negative talk.

Our choices can be difficult at times so don't be hasty, pray about them. Think positively. Don't let your feelings have a say!

Meyer brings in the 4 personality types... if you are choleric be careful you don't try to control people or situations. you are melancholy you tend to think a lot and want everything done a certain way. If you're phlegmatic, you tend to ignore things that should be confronted or get up and do something about that pile of laundry instead of just sitting in a chair. If you are the sanguine type you tend to be more serious and not very humorous. You become more balanced as you allow God to control your personality.

There are many interesting facts, lots of scripture to back up what she is saying. I enjoyed the book and highly recommend it. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

My thoughts...

I absolutely LOVED this book! This is the second book by Suzanne I have read and believe me, I am not disappointed. She is a wonderful writer. What I really like about her writing is the way she tells the story and brings God into the picture and reveals His plans, she gets her message across in a wonderfully written story of a young couple in the midst of marital woes who become trapped in a snowstorm and end up spending Christmas with an Amish family. Both families touch each other's lives in an amazing way. The characters come alive and you get so attached to them.

Suzanne has an awesome gift for writing, you feel what she is describing. The hurt from a suspected affair, the fear of your child missing, the love for a pet, and the joy of celebrating Christ at Christmas.

This book is about an English couple and an Amish family but it's more about God working in the lives of these people. Truly a WONDERFUL book!

I give it 5 out of 5 stars and would love to rate it even higher!

About the Author:

Her interest in the Amish began with her grandfather, W.D. Benedict, who was raised Plain. She has many, many Plain relatives living in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and travels back to Pennsylvania , as well as to Ohio , a couple of times each year for research.

Suzanne has a great admiration for the Plain people and believes they provide wonderful examples to the world. In both her fiction and non-fiction books, she has an underlying theme: You don't have to "go Amish" to incorporate many of their principles--simplicity, living with less, appreciating nature, forgiving others more readily-- into your life.

My review:

What an inspiring and beautiful story! It will bring tears to your eyes and touch your heart in such a way that you will be aware of God even more in your life. Mike's daughter, Megan, touched many lives during her ten years on this earth and through her story she will touch many more. Oh, that we all could be like Megan and show others the love of God and just how much He cares for us.

The book contains stories shared by family and friends, such a blessing she was to everyone she met. Cope shares lessons his family learned after Megan's death reminding us that God chooses what the world considers the least in society.

I highly recommend this book and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Consumers buy and upgrade as fast as they can, largely unaware of technology's subtle yet powerful influence. My thoughts...

Technology has rocketed the last several years, both for the good and not so good. It all comes down to how you use it. In this book Dyer has written
about the power of technology and whether it is liberating or corrupting users.

Texting, instant messenging, social websites, millions of users. These things are taking the place of seeing each other face to face. Our children are on the internet playing games instead of outdoors playing baseball or riding their bikes. If not kept in check hours will be spent online instead of socializing with friends and can be destructive for children as well as adults.

I found this book to be very informative, eye opening as well as one of those "make you stop and think" books and highly recommend it. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

When I selected this book I had no idea it was a story about a superhero. I put it off til the last minute to read. Imagine my surprise when I discovered this to be a suspenseful, explosive, thriller that held my interest from the beginning!

Good entertainment yet thought provoking. Questions about justice arise and I thought Parrish answered it perfectly. There are numerous violence scenes throughout.

The book is about organized crime, corrupt police officers, families that are destroyed, the evil devour whatever they want, all hope is lost. Who will help? One man takes on the responsibility, a man with incredible faith and a desire to be an example of goodness and show love to the world. Nolan Gray is that man. He begins the fight to change the world.

I found it to be a compelling story and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Hawaiian Sunrise To Sunset by Randall Ng

You might think that living in Hawaii and working with kids all day sounds like Paradise. But the reality of working as a middle school counselor, servicing kids in a low-income neighborhood, is very different.

My thoughts...

Ng shares his story of working with students in a low income neighborhood school. He faces many types of social issues such as teen pregnancy and gang violence with the students and does his best to help them work through their problems and situations. He does his best to keep the students on the right track when it seems everything around them is negative.

The writing could've been better but overall it's an interesting story of Ng's 30 years as a middle school counselor. He received the 2005 Hawaii State Teacher'a Association's "Friend of Youth" award and an award from the Hawaii State Senate for his counseling department's effore to promote a safe, healthy, and drug free lifestyle in 2002.

Hell is Real (But I Hate To Admit It) by Brian Jones

My thoughts...

Jones answers four questions about hell and whether it is real. There are lots of scriptures to prove it is a real place. A place you do not want to go nor do you want anyone else to. He tells his story of how he didn't believe in hell until four years after becoming a Pastor. For me, this was a surprising fact. Christianity is based on Jesus' dying on the cross to become sin for us and to reconcile us to the Father so that we do not spend eternity in hell.

Jones uses the last chapters with ways to share and not to share your faith. The advice he gives is practical. Christians should be telling the lost about hell and how to avoid it. This book doesn't give graphic descriptions but he does get his point across. I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

My thoughts...

Evers has written a wonderful book about healing from abuse. She experienced physical abuse in her marriage and writes of the emotional pain she endured as well as physical. Upon leaving her husband for good her story of healing begins. It didn't happen overnight, took much prayer, and help from many, especially God, for Kelly to heal. The hardest part was forgiveness. It can be done and she is proof.

The book contains prayers, affirmations, scripture, and more. What I thought was especially helpful was the chapter on recognizing different types of abuse. Many don't recognize the signs and this should help friends and family of those being abused as well as the victims themselves.

There are numerous resources listed at the end of the book and a checklist of items to pack when leaving an abuser. Lots of great information.

I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Heaven Revealed by Paul Enns

There are so many questions in life... but few are as universal as: "What is the afterlife like?"

For those who have put their hope and trust in Jesus Christ here on earth--Heaven awaits. Addressing questions as basic as What will we do there? and What is it like?, theologian Dr. Paul Enns dives deep into the Scriptures while reflecting on the very personal nature of what is to come. Heaven Revealed is concurrently a helpful, easy-to-read guidebook for Christians as well as an encouragement for those of us who are left here on earth after our loved ones who are Christians pass away.

Follow along as Dr. Enns succinctly leads you through what the Bible has to say about Heaven.

In grief, we all need hope--hope for our loved ones who are now gone, and hope for ourselves as eternity looms closer. Heaven should be something to look forward to, not something to be confused about.

My thoughts...

After losing his wife of 45 years, Enns began to think more and more about Heaven. He searched the scriptures and wrote "Heaven Revealed". I can't say I believe everything he wrote is correct, I feel it's more his opinion but what he wrote is heartwarming and inspiring. Scripture doesn't tell us much about what Heaven is like, we won't know until we get there.

The book is easy to read, full of scripture, and would be good for group discussion. Enns asks many of the same questions most people do after losing a loved one, he put in personal experiences to help with understanding.

I think the book will instill hope and comfort to readers. I give it 4 out out of 5 stars.

My thoughts...

Lisa has endured some very painful experiences in her life, from being sexually abused by a teacher to losing a child through miscarriage. She has come through them with the help of Jesus and has established "A Circle of Friends" ministries as a result. Here women learn the concepts of Acceptance, Authenticity, Affirmation, Accountability, and Action.

Lisa says that first we must accept the fact that God sees and cares about us. We are valuable to Him. Next we must be authentic, be ourselves. Trust God and trust one other person that you can be real with. Don't pretend everything is ok. Every one of us has problems of some sort.

Being truthful with others will cause them to be truthful (real) with you. They will respect you for who you are. Then, be accountable. Find an accountability partner who will point you in the right direction... toward God and His Word.

Finally, step into action. God has a plan for your life and to fulfill it you must get started.

There are questions to reflect on throughout the book and a discussion guide for small groups at the end. Lisa has included a Bible reading guide, goal setting tips, recommended reading and much more!

"A Place To Belong" is a great guide for ministry. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Getting Back Up When Life Knocks You Down by Jeremy Kingsley

This uplifting book meets people when they are down, helping them to transform their lives. In each chapter the author explores a response to a crisis and shows how working through crises can lead to strength, peace, forgiveness, and hope.
Kingsley offers snapshots of different people and their responses to difficult situations, including his own tough times and how he has overcome. This faith-based book will appeal to a wide range of readers, both Christians and non-Christians.

My thoughts...

This is a self help book, it has encouraging words that attempts to lift you up when you're down. There are some good things in it but I didn't particularly enjoy it. It's simple steps to get one back on their feet are just that...simple. It isn't easy getting up when you're down and for me it would take more than what this book offers to help me get up again. His advice needs more depth. There is too much repetition in the book and not enough Biblical content.

I feel that Kingsley points readers more to self than to God. True healing comes from above and we should focus more on the truths in His Word. God uses our pain to teach us and help us grow.

While There Is Still Time by Terrell Dunnum

God always sends messengers to warn his people before a special event. He sent Noah before the flood. He sent angels before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. He send John the Baptist before the arrival of Jesus Christ.

In the same way God spoke to Noah and John the Baptist, he has spoken to Terrell Dunnum. Terrell had released the Lord’s messages into a book of poetry that will bring hope and healing to all who read it.

While There is Still Time is filled with poetry that is enjoyable both for its messages and its unique rhythms and rhymes. The poetry in While There is Still Time will touch all people, whether saved or unsaved. The lost will be drawn back to God, the weak in faith will be strengthened, and all readers will find encouragement and inspiration.

My thoughts...

This is a small book with 74 pages and is divided into sections. The first section is titled I AM which contains six poems. On the page opposite each poem there is a space for reflections. I really like this about the book as I like to write notes as I read and reflect.

As far as the poems themselves, there are a few that I liked. However, many sound as though they were written by a child. I feel the writer's attempt to rhyme botched the poems. For example..."I am warmer than milk and sweeter than honey, With words of love as gentle as a little baby bunny". I didn't find that poem to be prophetic at all.

Other poems were very nice, glorifying our Lord Jesus Christ. All were pretty much scriptural based. It bears repeating, if the writer had not rhymed each line I think the poetry would have been much more inspiring. I give 3 stars out of 5.

He holds a master’s degree in Christian counseling from American Bible College and Seminary. While There is Still Time is Mr. Dunnum’s first poetry book.
At the age of 12 he began to teach Sunday school and help his mother prepare for her missionary license. Terrell’s unique message is one that has inspired, educated, and challenged individuals of all ages in making life changing choices.

At the age of 18, Terrell Dunnum’s mother died from an aneurism and a year later his father died from a coronary heart failure. My thoughts...

This is the first book I've read by Sarah Sundin and it definitely will not be the last! I found this to be such a wonderful, touching story. The characters are believable, each going through hardships due to the war.

The main character, Helen, a war widow, is hiding a secret and it's destroying her inside. She meets Ray and he brings out the secret bit by bit trying to help her heal. He falls in love with her but after one horrible evening when painful memories invade her, she throws him out telling him he is a coward and is never to come back. Crushed, Ray decides to leave his position as supply clerk and fly fighter jets. Helen is horrified when news of his death in a crash reaches her.

What these two people go through is absolutely terrible. Helen learns to trust God and rely on Him for strength. She makes plans to take her son and leave the town she loves but something happens that stops her in her tracks.

Sundin has done a magnificient job of keeping this story interesting, I didn't want to stop reading once I started. I believe you will fall in love with the characters and feel their pain as well as their joy. I give Blue Skies Tomorrow 5 stars.

My thoughts...

All of us go through tough times, trials, temptations, adversity. There are times when we don't even feel like getting up out of bed. Kingsley's book is packed full of information that will inspire you to get back up!
He has endured much as he began his career as well as his marriage. Being poor is one of his toughest. He gives us steps to getting back up when we are down.

Forgiveness is one of the big points he makes, stop blaming others. It's purpose is to make you angry. It's not worth it, just let it go! Not only will these things hurt you spiritually but physically too.

The book is an easy read, I finished it in one afternoon. I appreciated Kingsley's honesty about his own problem times. We all handle things differently but he does give basic steps to follow. I found the book inspirational and the timing perfect. In this day and age, many have lost their jobs, their homes. I believe this book will give you hope. It gets 5 out 5 stars from me!

My thoughts...

Weber writes of her first year at Oxford and her journey from agnostic to Jesus. She grew up in Canada with a dysfunctional and very poor family, wins a scholarship to study literature.

Weber is a lonely soul at first, she meets an American student who introduces her to email. This same man later introduces her to Jesus. I found the story to be well written and interesting. I've always enjoyed hearing how others come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior. This one was enjoyable as well. Her journey to the Lord is interesting, the many questions, her struggles to understand and her reluctance.

My thoughts...

Kingsbury has been a favorite author for many years. Her books began to get predictable and that is something I dislike. "Waiting for Morning" is a book about bitterness and anger against God and learning to forgive and go on with life.

The book has brought twinkles to my eyes, it held my interest, kept me turning pages to see what would happen next. A fast paced and heartwarming story.

A terrible tragedy fills Hannah with unforgiveness, Kingsbury writes in such a way that you feel this characters anger and the need for revenge. Also as she realizes her need to forgive and the need to let go and let God take control.

I give it 5 of 5 stars.

The Day Satan Called by Bill Scott

My thoughts...

I'm not sure I can come up with words to describe this book... frightening is one, fascinating is another . Satan is real and his intentions are real... to destroy people, churches, marriages, and anything else he can.

Bill Scott's story is amazing, everything he and his wife went through beginning with the phone call from a young girl asking for help to exorcism shows us many of the ways the enemy uses to blind people. This young girl wanted to be free from a witches coven and demonic possession. Scott and his friends start a wild journey to help this girl be free and live a life serving the Lord Jesus Christ.

One thing I found interesting is that there are items people have in their possession that can attract demonic spirits. Ok, some of you aren't going to believe any thing in this book and that's your perogative. Scripture does tell of those who were demon possessed (Mark 5 and Matthew 8). I believe it still happens today.

Read the book, if nothing else it will make you think. I give it 5 of 5 stars.

Rosemergy writes a 9 step journey to powerful prayer which includes a 40 day guide. It will make you think about your relationship with almighty God. This book is good for self or group study.

Prayer is a challenge for a lot of Christians, The Gathering is a way to jumpstart or increase a meaningful journey of fellowshipping with God if you're not already doing so.

Rosemergy explains how important prayer is and how it effects us when we speak to our Heavenly Father. There are challenges along the way that will make you stop and think.

"Barcelona Calling" is a book with humor throughout. A story about a writer with one bestseller and two not so good.

Annie and her friends know that the way to get her book noticed is for it to be one of Oprah's book club picks, so they start trying to get on her show.
The stunts they pull in an attempt to meet her are hilarious, from adopting a dog and making an appointment at a grooming salon because Oprah brings her dogs here to putting sideboards on her car (which catches fire) are just a couple of ways these ladies come up with in hopes of running into her.

The funny thing is that they do get a fleeting glimpse of Oprah and one of the friends does make it on the show! But the book doesn't even get a mention. All of Annie's money is spent trying to make Oprah aware of her book. The way she finally does hear about it is the best!

Best friends who want nothing more than to help Annie. You've got to read this book and see what happens, you won't be disappointed!

This is the second book in the Kentucky Brothers series. Samuel sinks into despair after losing his wife and unborn child. He feels he must get away from PA. and the home they had shared so he uproots his family and moves to Kentucky to be near his brother, Titus.

Shortly after settling into his brothers home he meets Esther, a young Amish woman. Hiring her to care for his children while he works he begins to have feelings for her but a promise he made to his wife stops him from courting her and he decides to move back to PA to escape Esther. However, something happens before he can move.

This book, like the first one, is predictable. There are no surprises, the characters are simple, the writing style is dull and tiresome. Quite a boring book.

Wow, Gina Holmes has now been placed on my favorite author list, I absolutely loved this book. First off, it written from the man's point of view, I think it's very well written. A thought provoking, touching, story of grace and forgiveness. A story of one man's determination to save his marriage.

I won't go into detail about the story line, you will enjoy finding things out for yourself.

I enjoyed getting to know the characters and felt like I knew them well by the end of the book. Christians make mistakes and fall into sin, thankfully we have a Heavenly Father who will forgive and restore us. Healing comes with forgiveness.

I'm excitedly awaiting Holmes next novel and highly recommend this one. I give it 5 out of 5 stars!

There are practical ways given at the end of each story to find the peace your heart longs for, thought provoking questions.

This would be a great gift for anyone that is stressed out. This book is easy to read, nice to look at, filled with personal stories and insights, enjoyable. I give it 4 stars.

Sherry has filled the book with key scriptures about blessings and living for the Lord with little nuggets of her experiences thrown in.

I didn't find the book helpful at all, there was nothing that offers any wisdom or spiritual insight into life or the Word of God. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy reading the scripture, it's just that I expected more than what was in the book. I think it would be a good asset to new believers or those wanting to renew their relationship with Christ.

Across The Wide River

Freedom. Some take it for granted. Others consider it worth dying for.

My thoughts...

Lowry's family assists runaway slaves in getting their freedom. Lowry, age 13, transports slaves from his house to the next station, this happens during the night and takes several hours by horse. He usually returns just before dawn, piles into bed and sleeps for an hour then gets up to do chores and go to school. Lowry complains about having to do this but each time he sees the fear in the eyes of the slave he knows he must help this person get to Canada. His family believes his calling is to be an abolitionist minister, Lowry doesn't think so but does attend seminary briefly.

This book wasn't what I expected, it was slow and there wasn't much to hold my interest, it was a chore to read. However, I did finish it and wasn't impressed with the ending either. I don't feel that Reed expressed enough emotion in the characters or the story. Lowry was a complainer, he was boring. Overall, I was very disappointed and give it 2 stars.

The characters in this story are so friendly, sincere and entertaining, the beach town so homey it makes me want to live there.

Melody has written an inspiring story of how Meg tries to reconnect with God after adversity strikes again and again. He is always there waiting for us to come back.

Jade Benson has more on her shoulders than anyone should have. Her husband is a recovering addict, she discovers her father in law having an affair, and her mother has been diagnosed with cancer and wants to spend her remaining days at their old home. These are just a few of the major events happening in her life and the lives of her loved ones. She also has issues from her childhood to deal with.

This is not your usual sweet story, the writing is full of emotion, fast paced. It keeps you guessing.

The characters are interesting, real people that you and I feel like we know. You find yourself rooting for them. I did not like the way you are left hanging at the end, the next installment in the series won't be out till late 2012.

I give it 5 stars! You won't be disappointed.

Emma has lost her mother to cancer after having been her caregiver for the last year. She needs peace and relaxation due to the strain of the past year.

Because of financial struggles Emma decides to help her sister in the family fabric store even though she was against the idea at first and she is also caring for her ailing grandmother not to mention the family farm.
Emma always puts the needs of others first

The characters are all dealing with trials, they are interesting and enjoyable folks. The story involves a lot of conniving and secrecy involving a newcomer.

If you like Amish fiction you will like Treasuring Emma. I give it 4 stars.

Enemies of the Heart is one of those books that make you say "Wow!" Stanley has a way of getting his point across, easy to understand. Expect tears and lots of prayer as you read it. He includes personal stories that further enhance his points.

There are four enemies of the heart... guilt, greed, anger, and jealousy. If we do not deal with them they will take us over. Most of us struggle in one way or another in one of these areas. Stanley offers a solution for for ridding ourselves of these negative areas by confessing to God, giving Him thanks, and being forgiving and generous to others.

Give your heart an assessment. God CAN free us!

At first, I didn't think I was going to like this book, it starts out a little slow but I'm so glad I kept reading. After a few pages my interest picked up. What a charming story it is!

Anna Larson's mother has passed away and Anna is returning to her childhood home to settle things. Once there, memories of her parents and growing up start to fill her mind and she begins to relax.

She meets an interesting woman, Hazel, and their friendship takes off. Anna decides to turn the house into an inn and with the help of Hazel's son changes happen fast. With Melody's description I can picture how lovely the inn and surrounding area is and can imagine myself visiting The Inn at Shining Waters . I especially liked the neighbors, so friendly and down to earth, always wanting to help each other out.

Anna has her problems of course, such as a monster mother in law who degrades Anna and treats her like a servant. She eventually turns Anna's daughter against her. I liked the way Anna dealt with her mother in law and this situation, she is a strong woman. I recommend this book if you're in the mood for a delightful easy read. It will leave you feeling good! I'm anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!

New Kid Catastrophies

This six-book series centers around two 23rd century goofballs, Tuna and Herby, who travel back in time to study TJ Finkelstein for their history project. TJ will someday become a great leader who demonstrates honesty, integrity, thoughtfulness, self-sacrifice, respect for others—all traits she hones and grasps through her adventures in this series. Unfortunately, Tuna and Herby get stuck in TJ’s time (modern day), so she has to deal with their schemes while juggling the normal issues of a seventh grader who has moved to a new city, is trying to fit in, and is coping with her mother’s death and her family’s new life.

In New Kid Catastrophes, TJ accidentally makes an enemy of Hesper Breakahart, the superstar who attends their school. And Tuna and Herby’s attempts to help just lead to one disaster after another. In the end, TJ is still very unpopular, but she learns the value of looking past appearances and gains a few friends—and the attention of the most popular boy in school.

My thoughts...

This is a great book for tweens. TJ's family have moved to California and she has started a new school which has your usual nerdy kids and of course celebrity kids. She is able to see two kids who are invisible to others. These two get her into all kinds of crazy situations.

The book is entertaining, the situations are comical, and the characters are loveable. TJ does learn about friendship and having patience with others. However, there was very little in the book that signifies christian.

I rate it 4 stars.

Rumors of God - a review

My thoughts...

Beth Moore books don't disappoint, she has written a book that will help those who suffer from insecurity. Her desire is to see the bondage of insecurity broken in women's lives and to bring healing.
You will be challenged to dig deep and search the scriptures to discover how the roots of insecurity start.

"So Long Insecurity" is inspirational, Moore's insight comes from her own insecurities she battled. She is an excellent teacher and will walk with you through the book.

Since my schedule was so hectic the last couple of weeks I haven't had time to show you the books I received in the mail. I also downloaded several for kindle, three for review and two just to read.

Nobody's Child... A Review

My thoughts...

Laura Ann's father dies right before Christmas. Her Uncle Jack, a vicious man, will do anything to get a share of the farm. While fighting to keep her farm from the bank and Uncle Jack, a woman arrives and shocks Laura Ann with the news of why she is there. Due to a flash flood the two spend time getting to know each other. Before the woman can go home a severe medical issue arises and just as a new life begins an old one passes away.

This was a nice, though very predictable, read. The beginning is slow and throughout the book there are places where the story gets a little boring. Overall, I give it 3 stars.

My thoughts...

In this book the author wants to understand God's grace and begins to search for it. She has ideas such as she has to earn God's grace or be good enough so that He will bless her. She tried making deals with God. Of course, in the end she understands she cannot earn it, that His grace is a gift... no strings attached. Velthouse writes of fasting, which is what we as Christians should be doing on a regular basis. This book is her story of how she searched for His grace and her understanding that came from it.

Lisa writes in an alternating time line style which was somewhat confusing, there is also quite a few pages talking about her dating life which I didn't feel added to the book's theme. I don't feel I can add anything else other than I was disappointed and didn't find the book insightful.

Iris Delgado has written a wonderful tool to equip Christians to do battle, in this day and age we must pay special attention to our children and guide them correctly. "Satan, You Can't Have My Children" gives us prayers to pray, scriptures to read and back up what she has written as well as insights into spiritual warfare.

This book will help build your faith and help you to know how to pray for your children. Spiritual warfare is real, Satan tries to get hold of children through television programs, video games, and the books they read.
Parents have responsibilites and one of those is to do battle for your children. Raise them in the fear of the Lord. Be equipped to do spiritual warfare. This book will help you do just that. I recommend it for every parent.

Life Everlasting by Robert Whitlow

My thoughts...

Another gripping novel by Whitlow, I've yet to be disappointed. Full of suspense, exciting, and amidst all this he shows us our need to rely on God and trust Him.

The characters are fabulous, I love the way Whitlow portrayed Rena. It's like he knows these people inside and out and there's always moral issues to deal with.

The ending was too quick, I felt it was wrapped up in just a few short pages. Life Everlasting is worth the read though. I give it 5 stars.
